My life - 2041

It’s year 2041 and it’s early in the morning. The alarm just woke me up with a load noise and turning on and off the light until I go up and turn off the alarm.

The breakfast is served in the kitchen of the family’s maid (a robot). The robot is helping us with everything from cooking, cleaning, laundry, go to the grocery store, and answering the phone.

It’s not that common with cars as it was 2011. Nowadays we have something we could compare with the undergrounds/subways. We have the same network, but we don’t need to wait for the train, because everybody got their own train. It’s very extensive and you can almost go wherever you want. The only thing I need to go in the morning when I go aboard on my train is to push the “school”-button. When school ends I call my train and tell it where to pick me up, very convenient.

Most of the days I manage school from home. Most of our classes are online and we only meet the professor once or twice per semester. Online we can watch the lectures, do all assignments and presentations and of course e-mail and skype our professor and classmates.

The content of the education would be about the same comparing to 2011. What I can see it hasn’t changed that much over the years before (looking back in time). It’s still important with history, language, math, business, science etc. The only difference would be that the research developed and has come up with lots of new things.

When I am done with school for the day I call my train and it will pick me up and drive me back home. I start to get hungry so I walk into the kitchen. Our robot-maid gives me, without asking the menu. It’s a tablet and it has everything you can imagine. Today I wanted to have Japanese food, I press the button and after 30 seconds, the robot picks up the food for me in our super-microwave.

There’s a football game tonight, and my favorite team is playing. Even if the game isn’t on the home arena my friends and I take the train to the game. The transportation from our place to the arena, which is 500 miles only take 15 minutes. After the game we take the train back home and it’s time for go to bed.

Advertisment

I have been taking a lot of marketing-classes so I always get a bit suspicious when I look at an ad. It’s ALWAYS to good to be true, in general, not only talking about food.
There is a couple of brands I am use to buy (everyone how have taking a marketing-class know that “people buy brands, not products”), most of the products is Swedish though so it wouldn’t make any sense for me – or you to write them here.

I chose to describe an advertisement from a café called “Hello” in my hometown, Halmstad in Sweden. It’s a café who serves everything from coffee and tea to cupcakes, ice-cream, baked potatoes, salads, and sandwiches. Their specialties’ is that they are doing everything from the scratch. They bake their own bread, make their own cookies and ice-cream etc.
All vegetables is bought from near-living farmers, and even the wheat they use to bake the bread is bought from a company in Halmstad.
It’s always hard to get a table here because everybody I know, love this place.
Why does everybody love it then?
I think it’s easy. Well, I can’t speak for America but in Sweden we all wants to know what we are eating, and with today’s all fast-food restaurants it’s kind of hard to know that.

Unfortunately I didn’t find the ad I was thinking of, but that’s not surprising because it’s a small business in a medium-sized city in Sweden. The only advertising “Hello” is using is on their doors in to the café.
Imagine you a big sandwich with home-baked bread, cheese, ham, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, corn etc. and without dressing, did I tell you that? We don’t put any disgusting dressing on our sandwiches!

I kind of miss home when I think of “Hello’s” food!

This was the only photo I found from "Hello"

Footprint Calculator

If everyone on the Earth lived the way I do it would take 6 Earth’s to provide enough resources. I have never thought about this before and it was shocking to see how much energy I consume.

First of all, I travel a lot. In the end of this year I will probably have been flying over 70 hours this year. It’s a lot, I know but I love to travel and discover new places all over the world. I also eat meat every day, maybe not every meal but almost. From now on will try to cook more vegetarian food but it’s hard because I don’t like it as much as I like meat!

A couple of years ago I traveled around in Australia. A big drought had affected the entire east coast and we were only allowed to shower a few minutes a day, and we discovered that it’s enough! Nowadays I always try to shower quickly, don’t let a water run when I shampooing my hair and breath my teeth.

Since last week when I read about this assignment, I’ve recycled all my water bottles. Back home in Sweden, I don’t have that problem because I never buy water, without drinking from the tap. In Sweden the water from the tap taste the same as the water on the bottles, but here it tastes so much chlorine.

I think this was a useful assignment, and I will think about this in the future.

About me

Hello, my name is Emelie Johansson, I am 24 years old and from Sweden.
I am here as an exchange student and will stay here for one semester.

I have been studying two years on my home University in Sweden, and have one more year until I get my bachelor's degree in finance. I think I will go further and study one or two more years after that and get a master's degree in finance.

In the future, when I finish the school, I would like to work international. That is why I went to United States. I need to learn better English, it is fun but difficult! With that said, please have patience with my English!

When I first started University I was sure that I would like to work with marketing when I graduate. My father is a successful businessman and works at on of the biggest banks in Sweden as an internal auditor and when I was a little child I always said that I would never walk in my fathers footstep. And here I am, studying finance and works on a bank. Life never gets as you expected.

Back home in Sweden I live together with my boyfriend Mikael. We have been together for five years now.

What I miss most from Sweden is of course my boyfriend, family and friend. But I also miss the Swedish food!

The food culture is very different. Here in the United States you got a lot of different restaurants on campus. In Sweden we got one, with healthy food. But most students bring their own lunch.
America are fascinating in many ways but the food is… not my favorite!

So far I really love Florida. I been in the States three times before and I have to say I love the people here. Everyone is so friendly and open-minded.

The weather is also much better than home. Soon it starts to get cold in Sweden, in November the snow is falling and you need to wear a lot of clothes when you get out. I do not miss that part!

I hope you got to know me a little better, but if you have questions, feel free to ask!
